to sound good
Demonstrating our versatility and range, we created an eclectic musical palette to rebrand a pop culture icon.
MTV's iconic logo is famously a canvas for endless reinterpretations, from a hugely diverse range of creators. In one season of reimagining, we were approached to create sonic identities to complement themed incarnations by some of animation's brightest luminaries.
It was important to MTV that the work reflected the theme of each idents and didn’t feel ambiguous or step in the toes of any other idents theme.
The client emphasised thematic cohesion, requiring each sonic identity to follow its theme closely, without ambiguity and without overshadowing other interpretations.
Anger
For Jonathan Djob Nkondo’s naughty study on anger, we created some furious breakneck goblin metal.
Fear
Sean Buckelew requested a “creepy miracle of life” and we delivered (pun intended) a spooky Soap Opera crescendo, ending in a melodramatic celebration.
Flawless
Joe Melhuish’s concise brief describes our resulting soundtrack down to the very last digit (another intended pun). “I'd like it to be very sensual, to feel the character is getting a real sense of pleasure from it all. A modern sounding dreamscape, surreal but definitely plasticy. Think 'Hed Kandi' but weird and sinister.”
Party
Cheerier than the others, Arona wanted to show birthday dinner preparation. “This turmoil and hubbub of a family evening” in a silly, retro way. A little Dixe Jazz should do the trick.
