Homeward is a kids’ adventure comedy set in an alternate world, a land of ancient Nordic folklore with a playful modern attitude. Nickelodeon approached Skillbard for our proven ability to bring that lively, vibrant quality, Nick viewers love.
Animal Horns and Digital Synths
Nickelodeon wanted a modern, upbeat score with an Icelandic tinge, avoiding mediaeval themes while conveying a hopeful sense of adventure.
Our approach blended primitive with contemporary sounds. Rustic woodwinds and animal horns were combined with sparkling digital synthesis.
Slime Time
One of the funner aspects of the project—and, indeed, our job as a whole—was recording a library of squelching sounds for the undead souls. We cracked eggs, squashed tomatoes, stretched balloons and manupulated a non-newtonian fluid using a plunger.
